Green Transformation of Tourism Sector will Boost Competitiveness and Resilience

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has emphasized the imperative of a green transformation within the tourism sector, citing its significance not only for the environment but also for enhancing competitiveness and resilience in tourism. This assertion was made by the Governor, conveyed through the Commissioner for Cooperatives and Investment, Hon. Adebayo Ogungbangbe, during the 2023 World Tourism Day celebration held at the Owa Aloko Palace in Iloko-Ijesha, under the theme “Tourism and Green Investment.”

Governor Adeleke urged both private and public entities to invest in the tourism sector, underscoring his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for green investment to flourish.

At the event, Hon. Tope Anjorin, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, reiterated the importance of rededicating efforts to the development of tourism in Osun State, emphasizing its potential to generate employment, alleviate poverty, and contribute to overall socioeconomic growth.

Additionally, Chief Kolade Adeleke, Chairman of the Osun Tourism Board, emphasized the significance of appreciating and promoting cultural heritage among the populace.

Various dignitaries including Hon. Adeshina Atanda, representing Iwo Local Government in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Ogunrinade, Chairman of Egbedore State Constituency, and Oba Akeem Olusayo Ogungbangbe, the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa land, highlighted the importance of tourism to the nation while expressing appreciation to the State Government, Osun Tourism Board, Osun Council for Arts and Culture, and the people of Iloko-Ijesa for their support.

Professor Fashikun Gbenga of the Department of Cultural Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in his lecture, emphasized the significance of natural green leaves, commonly known as herbs, which possess medicinal properties and contribute to economic growth.

Furthermore, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ajayi, the General Manager of the Osun Tourism Board, and Mrs. Solape Abolarin, the Executive Secretary of the Osun Council for Art and Culture, expressed gratitude to the State Government, partners, stakeholders, and residents for their unwavering support in transforming Osun into a world-class tourist destination.

The event, which commenced with a town storming in Osogbo, featured various activities including an indigenous food competition, cultural performances, poetry (Ewi), among others.
